Flat Roofs – Polyurethane
Whilst buildings are estimated as being currently the source of some 21% of total global carbon emissions, within the more specific UK PUBLIC SECTOR context, it is estimated that some 40% to 45% of total emissions (Carbon Footprint) relate to buildings, of which some 65% are entirely or partly of flat roofed construction.
Many of these units are buildings (offices, schools, sports facilities, storage blocks etc) constructed between 1960 and 1990, when insulation requirements were significantly less than those currently being insisted upon. The effects of the foregoing on maintenance/heating costs in today’s climate are very significant, as indeed are the direct implications for all local government authorities apropos the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC), Central Government’s mandatory scheme targeting carbon dioxide emissions entered into and scheduled as from April 2010.
The improvement/upgrading of what are now seen as being inadequate insulation characteristics and qualities of many public sector buildings, is a task fraught with operational problems for those seeking to undertake the required work, and for those occupants/users of the buildings being considered for such upgrading or, in many cases, the actual installation of insulating materials where little or no such provision had ever been made before. To this end, Foamspray Technology offers a range of solutions to these issues, based around two separate and distinct approaches. Each and either of these can be looked to, dependent upon the nature of the project/property, whether or not vacant possession of all or part of the building in question can be facilitated, Health and Safety issues, cost etc. Firstly, by the application of a specialist rigid spray applied to the underside of roofing, greatly improved insulation and reduced heating costs can be shown. In many cases, this approach will be the most appropriate and cost effective. Secondly, however, and particularly in respect of flat roofed properties, Foamspray Technology has the answer to the most common of problems relating to this type of construction. Our ‘state of the art’ spray applied seamless elastomer coating is durable, particularly hard-wearing, and is extremely tough and resilient.
This product can be applied most effectively to large areas of flat roofing in one application, thereby making this a particularly cost-effective solution to problems of this nature. Flat roofs having little or no insulation qualities fail to meet today’s increasingly stringent building controls/regulations. Our system coating can be applied from 25mm to 130mm, comfortably meeting today’s building control requirements. Assorted finishes can be applied and, most particularly, a fibreglass content can be integrated, where significant foot-traffic is likely to be seen. The product contains no solvents and is fully compliant with the most strict V.O.C regulations. It can be applied under weather conditions showing temperatures as low as minus 30c degrees. When taken in conjunction with improved or newly installed insulation products, this Polyurea sprayed surfacing can show very significant contributions towards improved energy efficiency performance/carbon reduction targets.
